Accessibility statement
Built to be read
by everyone.
A social worker reading this at the end of a long shift, a young person on an old phone with a cracked screen, someone using a screen reader — all of them need the same information out of this site. That is a design requirement, not a nice-to-have.

Where we stand
What we've done
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. We have tested against it rather than assumed it.
- Text contrast meets AA throughout, including on the dark bands, and we check it when we change a colour rather than afterwards.
- Everything works by keyboard. There is a skip link to the main content, focus is visible, and nothing traps you.
- Headings are in order and describe the content under them, so a screen reader user can navigate by structure instead of reading everything.
- Animation respects your settings. If your device asks for reduced motion, the embers, the drawing and the scrolling timelines all stop, and the content appears in place.
- It works without JavaScript, apart from the live job list — which tells you where to email for the same information.
- Text resizes to 200% without anything being cut off, and the layout works down to small phone screens.
- No images of people, and no text baked into pictures. The site is words, which happens to be the most accessible thing it could be — although the reason is safeguarding.
Known problems
Where we're not there yet
- The booking calendar on the contact page is provided by Cal.eu and its accessibility is not under our control. There is always a plain email route to the same outcome, and it is not hidden.
- The map of Wales on the services page is decorative and works by hover. The same information — that we work anywhere in Wales, and that locations are given to district level — is written in the text beside it, so nothing is lost if you cannot use the map.
- We have not yet had an independent audit. Our testing is our own. We would rather tell you that than imply a certification we do not have.
Tell us
If something doesn't work for you
Email hello@the-emberproject.co.uk with the page and what happened. We will reply within five working days, and if we can't fix it quickly we will tell you when we will, and send you the information you were after in a format that works in the meantime.
That last part matters more than the fix. Nobody should have to wait for our website to be sorted out to get an answer from us.
